The Emotional Map of Literature

The concept of emotion, which became widespread in the nineteenth century and whose meaning and definition have constantly changed throughout history, has led to studies in sociology, anthropology, history, economics, philosophy, and gender studies that reveal the historical, cultural, and collective aspects and sources of emotions, rather than their individual nature. Emotion studies has become a field transformed by the findings of different disciplines, reflecting on questions such as what we do with emotions, what emotions do to us; and on which emotions the production, circulation, and dissemination of historiography, political discourses, the experience of modernity, capitalism, collective belonging, individual relationships, and self-construction are based. Therefore, emotion studies, as a field influencing all disciplines, also has the potential to develop alongside art, ecology, and literature today. The book covers a wide period from early Ottoman literature to contemporary texts; different genres from mesnevi to novel, from theater to autobiography, from poetry to short story; The book weaves together intersecting and conversational paths encompassing various issues such as the relationship between emotions and political discourse, ecology, gender norms, self-construction, writing, and life.
