Texts of the History of Old Turkish Literature
If the definition of literary history were to be "the history of literary texts," this would perhaps be one of the most accurate definitions. Because it is almost impossible to evaluate such a field separately from the texts themselves.
Reading and trying to understand the texts that constitute the subject of literary history, and making some correct or incorrect evaluations, provides a contact and closeness with this field. Literary history gains its soul through the interpretation, evaluation, analysis, and comparison of these works. However, truly appreciating the texts and entering their inner world requires a much more advanced knowledge, what the ancients called "commentary on the text."
Instead of a chronological order, an alphabetical order, unusual for the past, has been preferred in order to facilitate the easy finding of the desired poet and author. With the aim of presenting the texts as accurately as possible and strengthening our students' relationship with written works, each text has been transferred verbatim from a manuscript or printed work that is as close as possible to the writing and spelling characteristics of its period.
Another purpose of providing facsimile reproductions of manuscripts was to allow the reader to come into contact with the various styles of writing in our ancient culture, such as Naskh, Riqa, and Ta'liq. Everything in the microfilms, from page stains to library stamps or marginal notes, was meticulously preserved as it was in the original.
