MİLLİYET SANAT APRIL 2026 ISSUE IS NOW ON THE SHELVES
 
Milliyet Art, Turkey’s repository of art, has released its April 2026 issue! The issue features director İlker Çatak’s “Yellow Envelopes,” winner of the Golden Bear at the Berlinale; a review of Şenay Gürler’s play “This Story Is Longer Than You, Osman”; and the 45th a feature on the Istanbul Film Festival; an analysis and interview regarding the “Fashion and Painting” exhibition opening at Arkas Art Alsancak; the latest developments in children’s literature; and an article on Göksel’s latest album—all await readers. 
 
VISUAL ARTS
 
The visual arts pages of the new issue open with a feature on Arkas Art Alsancak’s new exhibition, “Fashion and Painting.” The feature, which sheds light on the exhibition—inviting art lovers on an artistic journey spanning from the early 19th century to the 1940s, where brushstrokes intersect with fabric textures—also includes interviews with Müjde Unustası, Director of the Arkas Art Center, and exhibition curator Jean Luc Maeso. Hüsamettin Koçan, founder of the Baksı Museum, with his “BENBU” at CerModern; Bedri Baykam’s “Baykam on Picasso: Les Demoiselles Revisited” at Piramid Art; and Özer Toraman’s “Silent Dialogue” at Pi Artworks Istanbul—along with two significant features on the struggle of galleries in Anatolia to survive under economic pressures and the prominent contemporary artists of the Middle East. Sabiha Kurtulmuş dedicates her “Biz, Vesaire” column to the current state of the art market, while Ayşegül Sönmez In the “Sanatatak” column, he writes the story of an artist who questions his own existence in the wake of Banksy’s revelation.

MUSIC

 

The music section opens with Yavuz Hakan Tok’s column “As Long as There’s Music,” featuring his review of Göksel’s new album “Rüyaların İşi,” and continues with a feature on Rosalía, who is rewriting the rules of pop music, and an interview with Iván “Melon” Lewis, who is preparing to give a concert in Istanbul. In his “Diapason” column, Kemal Küçük discusses El Sistema—a social system established in Venezuela to combat poverty and crime, now celebrating its 50th anniversary—while Eray Aytimur dedicates his “Let It Stay Messy” column to an interview with Nilüfer Verdi, who has dedicated her new album “Matem” to street animals.

INTERVIEW OF THE MONTH

 

In the April issue of Milliyet Sanat, director İlker Çatak is the guest of the “Interview of the Month” with Asu Maro. The acclaimed director discusses his latest film, “Sarı Zarflar,” which he shot entirely with Turkish actors and which won the Golden Bear for Best Film at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival.

 

CINEMA

 

The cinema pages, which dedicate extensive coverage to the 45th Istanbul Film Festival—set to take place from April 9–19, 2026—feature not only the festival’s comprehensive program but also a curated selection of 10 films catering to diverse tastes, along with an interview with festival director Kerem Ayan. The new issue, which covers the anti-war voices emerging from Hollywood and the debates sparked by Jim Carrey’s latest appearance, also includes a review of the film “Michael,” which focuses on Michael Jackson’s early years of fame. Attila Dorsay, meanwhile, recalls Sean Penn’s directed film “The Pledge” in the “Treasures of Cinema” column.

PERFORMING ARTS

 

In the performing arts section of the April 2026 issue, Şenay Gürler, who takes the stage with her new one-woman show “This Story Is Longer Than You, Osman”; Ragıp Savaş, who brought Tarık Akan to life in “There’s a Bug in My Head”—produced by Bakırköy Municipal Theaters—and who also serves as the theater’s artistic director; and Almıla Uluer Atabeyoğlu and Kerem Atabeyoğlu, who share the stage in “Are You Crazy?”—their interviews await readers. In her “And the Curtain…” column, Seçkin Selvi discusses the play “Joko’s Birthday” by the Cihangir Workshop Stage (CAS).

 

LITERATURE

 

The literature pages, featuring an interview with Latife Tekin about her new novel *The Sound of Money*, continue with a comprehensive feature on the latest developments in children’s literature. In the pages where Can Bonomo discusses his fourth poetry collection *Impossible Things* and Buket Uzuner talks about her latest book *As a Force of Survival and Resistance: The Joy of a Girl*, Hülya Avtan, in her “Turn the Page” column, once again offers literature enthusiasts a wide selection of recommendations.

 

Milliyet Sanat also pays respectful tribute to Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı, whom we lost last month, in its April issue.
