Forms and Prosody in Old Turkish Literature
The relationship between poetry and form has been debated since the very beginning of poetry. The issue of form, particularly in Divan poetry, is a broad topic requiring careful consideration, with its strict and rigid rules that, like other aspects of this poetry, do not allow for any relaxation. The first section of this book deals with the forms of verse used in Divan literature. First, their definitions are given, then their common rules and various characteristics are discussed.
The second section of the book is devoted to the Aruz meter. All aspects of this meter, used in Turkish poetry for seven centuries, its origins and development are explained with examples.
While some books have been published in our country on the forms of verse in Divan literature and the Aruz meter, these have often contained very brief information on the subject.
Professor Dr. Haluk İpekten, a professor who has dedicated years to the study and teaching of our old literature, addresses the subject with expertise in this work. We hope that this book will primarily serve as a resource in secondary and higher education.
