İsmail Fenni Ertuğrul explains his reason for writing this work as follows:

“I observed that a group among our esteemed scholars harbored feelings of dislike and hostility toward those who subscribed to the doctrine of wahdat al-wujūd (Unity of Being), and especially toward the venerable Muhyiddin Ibn al-‘Arabi. In order to understand the reasons for this, I entered into discussions with some of them. I became convinced that they had not properly investigated the question of wahdat al-wujūd and that they regarded it merely as the philosophical doctrine of wujūdiyya (pantheism)...”
