Treasury of Secrets
In his mesnevi (narrative poem) titled Treasury of Secrets, the great Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi conveys Sufi thought and worldview through poetic language. Unlike Nizami's other works, Treasury of Secrets is entirely a poem on Sufism.
The first section of Treasury of Secrets is devoted to topics such as the praise of God, eulogies to the Prophet, the reason for writing the work, the virtue and value of words, the superiority of poetry over prose, knowledge of the heart, the pursuit of truth, inclinations towards the metaphysical universe, and seclusion. The second section of the book contains "Twenty Articles" and "Twenty Stories" related to the content of these articles. In these articles; Thoughts on morality, Sufism, caution, effort, goodness, generosity, negligence, stinginess, and disregard for the world are expressed, elaborated upon with original metaphors and descriptions, and each article is followed by explanatory and didactic stories related to its content.
Translated into Turkish from the original Persian text by Prof. Dr. Nimet Yıldırım with meticulous care, the work begins with an examination of Nizami's life and works, and concludes with a glossary of historical figures and concepts.
