The Possibility of Statehood
What does the establishment of a state mean? How should this establishment be approached in terms of the relationship between the state and the people? Does the state take precedence over its people, or does the people take precedence over the state? How should the individual's relationship with the state be constructed?
In his book, *The Possibility of Statehood: A Philosophical Examination of the Establishment of the Ottoman State*, Ahmet Emre Polat offers a new philosophical perspective on how a beginning, a formation, and continuity should be interpreted, within the framework of all these questions. Based on source texts concerning the establishment of the Ottoman State, the book attempts to identify the reference points of the legal, economic, social, cultural, and political structures in which the idea of establishment is concretized. Starting from the idea that the founding phase of the Ottoman State should not be abstracted from a philosophical analysis, the author strives to make a new contribution to the field among studies on this period, where philosophical analyses are less common compared to historical and political analyses.
The Possibility of Statehood attempts to rethink the triangle of state, society, and individual through the relationships of law, politics, religion, and economics, and to arrive at the right questions rather than a definitive conclusion.
