Turkish literature, with its rich and extensive heritage, requires the efforts of many researchers. Not only major literary masterpieces but also secondary and lesser-known works—and the cultural environments in which they emerged—deserve careful study and evaluation.
Interest in cultural works depends largely on an understanding of the values they embody. For societies such as ours, which have experienced profound cultural and civilizational transformations, historical works may come to be viewed merely as unnecessary stones and papers if their significance is not properly interpreted. For this reason, explaining the meaning and value of classical works to new generations is of the utmost importance. One of the motivations that led Mehmet Kaplan toward the idea of textual analysis was precisely this concern.
Kaplan observed through experience that the meaning of a text changes according to the perspective from which it is approached. The more significant the text, the more important the method of interpretation becomes.
