On Turkish Poetry
This book, consisting of studies on modern Turkish literature, is made up of four sections:
The first section contains seven essays on poets of the period before the Republic. Following Mehmet Kaplan’s terminology, this section is entitled “From the Tanzimat to the Republic.”
The second section includes nine essays on poets of the Republican era.
The third section is devoted to two great poets of Turkish poetry: Mehmet Âkif Ersoy and Yahya Kemal Beyatlı. Not affiliated with any particular literary school, these poets profoundly influenced the Republican period and shaped the intellectual outlook of several generations, beginning with their own contemporaries.
The fourth and final section focuses on the influence of Turkish literature in Türkiye on Azerbaijani poetry. This influence is illustrated through two poets, one from Northern Azerbaijan and the other from Southern Azerbaijan.
