Muhammediye
Muhammediye, one of the most important religious and mystical works of the fifteenth century, was written by Yazıcıoğlu Mehmed. Composed to teach the fundamental principles of Islam and to recount the life and miracles of the Prophet Muhammad, the work appealed to a wide readership through its poetic form and didactic style.
The book is structured around stories of the prophets, the principles of Islamic belief, moral teachings, and Sufi interpretations. Widely admired among the people, Muhammediye was frequently read in dervish lodges and religious gatherings, thereby playing a significant role in the understanding and transmission of Islam within Ottoman culture.
Thanks to Yazıcıoğlu Mehmed’s simple yet powerful language, the work became not only a religious text but also one of the classics of Ottoman popular literature. Today, critical editions of Muhammediye continue to be studied for both their literary and religious significance, making the work a valuable resource for researchers.
