This book is a continuation of the doctoral dissertation completed in 1981, which focused on the analysis of Mimar Sinan’s architecture. The dissertation developed findings concerning various characteristics of Sinan’s buildings, demonstrated the interdependence of their architectural elements, and led to the more comprehensive research that forms the basis of this volume.
Each chapter of the book is conceived as an essay addressing a different aspect of Sinan’s architecture. This fragmentary approach is intended solely to provide clarity and ease of focus. As becomes evident throughout the text, however, every aspect of this architecture possesses its own significance. The dynamic quality of Sinan’s designs arises from the infinite harmony of each element within the whole.
