Longing for Arapgir

The most distinctive characteristic of the people of Arapgir is that they never lose their love and attachment to the place where they were born and raised, nor their sense of hometown fellowship.

The geography that shaped our character, the journey of our lives, the loves, sorrows, and hardships that nourished our inclinations—these are the threads that weave our bond to this place.

For a long time, I had carried within me a passion to write about Arapgir. I expressed the story of how this accumulation found its way onto paper in the Preface.

I am aware that there are things I have left out. I sincerely respect in advance the justified objections and heartfelt regrets of those who know Arapgir better than I do, who may say, “He did not write about this,” or “He remembers that incorrectly.” Surely, their grandfathers and fathers were just as important as the people whose stories I have recounted. I could only write about what I experienced, heard, and felt. I hope that my esteemed fellow townspeople, whose nicknames, reputations, and life stories had become part of Arapgir’s heritage and whom I included in this book without having the opportunity to consult personally, will forgive me.

If I have been able to guide the “Children of Arapgir,” I will be more than happy. I only hope they do not delay—there is still so much left unwritten.
