This is a fundamental source prepared by Turkish art history researcher Rıfkı Melûl Meriç and first published by the Turkish Historical Society in 1965. This work aims to introduce the life and structures built by the great architect Sinan, the chief architect of the Ottoman period, to the contemporary academic world, based on original manuscripts of the time.
The work brings together four important historical treatises containing lists (tezkire) of Sinan's life and works, written by Sinan's close friend, the poet and painter Sai Mustafa Çelebi, and other authors.
able primary source for the academic verification of Sinan's biographies and lists of his works (such as his apprenticeship work Şehzade, his journeyman work Süleymaniye, and his master work Selimiye). This book presents the original names of the buildings and the names of the sultans or patrons in whose name they were built, directly to researchers based on Ottoman-era archival documents and manuscripts.
